Leanne Williams is a partner with Thornton Grout Finnigan LLP and practices exclusively in the area of restructuring and insolvency. Leanne is recognized as a leading practitioner in her field which includes workouts, refinancings, receiverships, bankruptcies and the enforcement of creditors' rights generally. Throughout her career, Leanne has regularly represented chartered banks and other financial institutions across a broad spectrum of industries. She also represents troubled debtors and court-appointed officers such as trustees in bankruptcy, receivers and monitors in Companies Creditors Arrangement Act (Canada) proceedings. Leanne is listed as being repeatedly recommended in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2017 (Insolvency & Financial Restructuring).
Her recent significant mandates include acting as counsel for Whirlpool Canada in the CCAA restructuring of Sears Canada, counsel to Endurance Energy Ltd. (a Calgary-based natural gas exploration and production company) in its CCAA proceeding, counsel to the Court-appointed receiver of Emmanuel Village Residence Inc. (a retirement home at the centre of a fraudulent scheme), counsel to the parent and largest creditor in the CCAA proceedings of U.S. Steel Canada Inc. (one of Canada's largest steel producers) and counsel to the Court-appointed monitor of the Mobility group of companies (a Canadian wireless telecom carrier).
Leanne is a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, an executive member of the Ontario Bar Association (Insolvency Section) and is a member of and sits on numerous committees of the Turnaround Management Association. She regularly speaks on insolvency related topics at conferences and continuing professional development programs. Leanne was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1999.
