Edna Sussman is a full time arbitrator and mediator with more than 35 years' experience in complex commercial disputes. Formerly a partner at White & Case, she has served as a chair, sole or co-arbitrator in over 200 arbitrations under many institutional rules as well as ad hoc proceedings and as a mediator in over 200 disputes concerning commercial contracts, energy, franchises and distributorships, partnerships and joint ventures, intellectual property, insurance, mergers and acquisitions, finance and banking, environment, accounting, securities, real estate, professional liability, pharmaceuticals, aviation and hospitality. Cases handled involved claims or were determinative of transactions ranging in value from $1 million to $1 billion.
Edna is the Distinguished ADR Practitioner in Residence at Fordham University School of Law. She serves on many arbitration and mediation panels including the American Arbitration Association, International Centre for Dispute Resolution, International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, Swiss, Vienna, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Shanghai, South China, Korea, Vietnam, Dubai, British Columbia, Lagos and Kigali Centres, Energy Arbitrators List Around the World, FINRA (securities disputes), National Futures Association, US Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution, and federal, state and bankruptcy courts in New York. She is also registered with the ICC and LCIA.
She has been widely recognised for her work and is listed in Chambers International and Chambers USA for arbitration and Chambers USA for mediation, in the Who's Who of international Arbitration and the Who's Who of International Mediation, and recognised annually by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers for alternative dispute resolution. She was selected by Best Lawyers as 2012 New York City Mediation Lawyer of the Year (one selected), rated One of the Ten Outstanding International Mediators by Who's Who Legal International Commercial Mediation, 2013 and is certified by the International Mediation Institute.
Edna serves on the board of the American Arbitration Association and is the vice-chair of the New York International Arbitration Center. As the immediate past President she serves on the executive committee of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She chaired the Dispute Resolution section of the New York State Bar Association and the Arbitration Committees of the American Bar Association's International Law and Dispute Resolution Sections as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution committee of the Energy Bar Association. Edna is one of six trainers nationwide in the United States for the American Arbitration Association's new arbitrators. She is a frequent speaker and author on arbitration and mediation.
