Mr Afamefuna Nwokedi ("Afam Nwokedi" as he is popularly known) has over 27years of legal practice experience, especially in the areas of intellectual property and corporate commercial law. He is a product of the prestigious St. Gregory's College, Lagos and the University of Calabar.
Prior to his present position as the Principal Counsel of Stillwaters Law Firm, he was for many years the Head of Chambers and Litigation in the foremost Nigerian IP law firm of David Garrick & Co. A consummate advocate, Mr. Nwokedi is considered an authority in Intellectual Property law practice in Nigeria, and has handled many litigation matters before trial and appellate courts in Nigeria, including but not limited to the celebrated case of Beecham Products -vs. General Nutrition.
He was a member of the Federal Government (of Nigeria) Committee for the establishment of an IP Commission in Nigeria and also a member of the Nigerian delegation to OHADA (African Association for the Harmonisation and Development of Commercial Law). Mr. Nwokedi has consulted and worked closely with the Commercial Law Development Programme (CLDP) of the United States Department of Commerce on IP issues in Nigeria. He has to his credit many publications on IP issues in Nigeria and has presented numerous papers on various aspects of intellectual property laws both locally and internationally.
Mr Nwokedi is the current chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Section of Business Law, Nigerian Bar Association. He is also a member of various IP organizations including, INTA, AIPPI, AIPLA, APAA, AEA, BMM, ACC, IPLAN and others.
