Christian Bolduc is a partner in Smart & Biggar's Montréal office. He has practiced in the field of intellectual property for over 20 years with a focus on trademark law. His experience covers all stages of the trademark life cycle – primarily of procurement, management, enforcement and strategic counseling. Christian advises clients on commercial issues and transactions involving trademarks, including the negotiation and drafting of license agreements, international co-existence agreements, IP asset audits, and the preparation and implementation of due diligence investigations. He also handles complex trademark opposition proceedings and appeals from Registrar decisions and assists in litigation strategy and execution.
Christian is highly skilled in assisting with trademark portfolio management, including selecting trademarks with particular value, implementing national and international filing and enforcement strategies in accordance with clients' commercial objectives, and setting up guidelines for properly promoting, advertising and using trademarks both in-house and externally. This in-depth knowledge and experience ultimately allows Christian's clients to increase the value of their trademark portfolios in Canada and abroad.

He is a fellow of IPIC and member of Council, as well as the past Chair of the International Trademark Issues Committee. Christian was the President of the 2009 organizing committee for FORPIQ and a member of INTA (Limits on Trademark Rights Subcommittee of the INTA Emerging Issues Committee), APRAM and ECTA (Law Committee and Publication Committee.
Christian attended the Université Laval to earn his B.Sc. (Microbiology) and M.Sc. (Microbiology/Immunology), he continued on at the Université Laval to complete his LL.B.. Christian was called to the Quebec bar in 1994. He is a Registered Trademark Agent (1995).
