Fred G. Bennett is a senior partner with Quinn Emanuel, the world's largest law firm specializing exclusively in litigation and arbitration. He developed and was the head of the firm's international and domestic arbitration practice for fifteen years, and is now Global Vice Chair and U.S. Chair of the practice. Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel, he was a senior partner and head of the worldwide ADR practice group at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Mr. Bennett has over 35 years' experience as an advocate and arbitrator in international and domestic arbitrations.
Mr. Bennett has arbitrated as lead counsel numerous international disputes. He has also served as arbitrator in many international and domestic arbitrations. In both capacities, he has handled disputes under rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, American Arbitration Association (ICDR), ICSID, London Court of International Arbitration, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Japan Arbitration Association, Singapore International Arbitration Center, Hong Kong International Arbitration Center, national arbitration statutes of European, South American and Asian countries, and UNCITRAL.
Mr. Bennett's representation of clients and services as an advocate and arbitrator have covered almost every area of business endeavor, including disputes on engineering and construction; nuclear and alternative energy; intellectual property (licensing, distribution, franchising, trademarks and branding) ; entertainment; mergers and acquisitions; partnerships and joint ventures; satellite and aerospace technology; multinational commercial transactions; and legal malpractice.
Mr. Bennett headed an AAA task force whose work resulted in major revisions of the AAA Commercial Rules (adopted in 2013), and served on committees to modify the ICDR rules and to reevaluate the ICC Emergency Rules. He was also selected for a California Supreme Court task force to modify obstacles to foreign lawyers participating in international arbitrations venued in California.
Mr. Bennett is a fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, a member of the ICC Commission and the U.S. national ICC Committee, and chair of the Southwestern Subcommittee. He is a former member of the AAA's national Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Nominating and Governance Committee. He is on arbitration panels for the ICC, Singapore and Hong Kong international arbitration centers, the AAA's ICDR and Large Complex Case Panels for Commercial and Construction disputes, Aviation, Aerospace and National Security disputes, and serves on the AAA's Master Mediation Panel,
Mr. Bennett was principal co-editor of the 5th edition of Redfern & Hunter on International Arbitration., and co-author of GAR's 2015 publication, Energy Arbitration.
In 2010 and 2014, Mr. Bennett received the ILO's Client Choice Award as the outstanding U.S. practitioner in arbitration. He received a similar award from Lexology in 2013. He has been included in "Best Lawyers in America", "Who's Who in Arbitration" and is consistently selected as a "Super Lawyer of Southern California".
