Mrinal Ojha, a partner based in the firm's Delhi office, focusses on the firm's disputes practice, specifically in the areas of insurance and reinsurance, energy, construction and engineering disputes arising out of insured projects, and subrogated insurance recoveries. He represents both Indian and foreign clients in a variety of high-value, complex and fact-intensive disputes, frequently with a cross-border element. Mrinal has previously been recognised by The Legal 500: Asia Pacific as an "exemplary and focused" lawyer. Mrinal regularly appears before the various High Courts in the country and the Supreme Court of India, besides other regulatory bodies and tribunals. He handles ad hoc and institutional domestic and international commercial arbitrations and mediations involving disputes in several jurisdictions.
Mrinal's experience extends to advising and acting as a coverage or monitoring counsel for Indian insurers and overseas reinsurers with a special focus on liability insurance, including errors and omissions insurance, directors and officers insurance, employment practice liability insurance, commercial general liability insurance, and public liability insurance. Mrinal has also advised on industrial insurance claims (including machinery breakdown), non-industrial property insurance claims including catastrophic damage claims, contingency insurance, and subrogation. Where there is no coverage issue or conflict, he also acts as defence counsel for insured at the behest of insurers/reinsurers controlling the claim.
Mrinal has been invited to speak on various legal issues in fora such as the Bombay Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Indian Merchant Chambers; National Insurance Academy, India; Corporate Counsel Forum, Singapore; Society of Women Lawyers, India; OP Jindal Global University and the Zicklin Centre for Research on Business Ethics, Wharton School; and for Global Arbitration Review.
