Stavros Pavlou is the Senior & Managing Partner of Patrikios Pavlou & Associates LLC. He has a BSc in Economics of Industry and Trade from the London School of Economics (1983), a postgraduate diploma in law from City University (1984) and is a barrister-at-law from Gray's Inn (1985). In 1986 he was admitted to the Cyprus Bar and has since been a practising advocate with the firm. In 1993, Mr Pavlou became the Managing Partner and in 2002, the Senior and Managing Partner of the firm. In 2014 he was awarded the Advanced Certificate in International Arbitration by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Stavros Pavlou is a very experienced litigator in the commercial field including banking and financial law and has been extensively advising on complicated banking and finance transactions involving major European and international financial institutions, banks and multinational private and public companies. Further, he specialises in cross-border securities and has handled the listing of large companies in recognised major stock exchanges such as LSE, AIM and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. For the last seven years, he has been providing the Industry Opinion on Securities Lending and REPO agreements for Cyprus, for the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) and also the Securities Lending and Repo Committee on Capital Adequacy (Bank of England).
One of his most significant cases over the last year relates to the provision of extensive advice on a Russian financing project of over USD 1 billion regarding a large trade and exhibition centre in Moscow. The project is important concerns an ongoing, 2-year transaction involving among others, assistance on very specialised matters such as complicated and difficult structures, numerous challenging facility, security and other agreements, perfection of charges and other security interests and several legal opinions.
Mr Pavlou is repeatedly listed as a recommended lawyer, notable practitioner and/or leading individual in Cyprus in the banking and finance, corporate and M&A and dispute resolution practice areas by legal directories worldwide. Stavros Pavlou has authored many publications on trusts, securities, tax, financial and corporate matters.
