His practice is concentrated in commercial, corporate and civil law, as well as in arbitration. In particular, he focuses his practice in counseling insurance and reinsurance matters, corporate disputes and civil and commercial litigation. His clients are mainly large national and international companies from different sectors, such as industry, energy, insurance and banking.
Enrique's practice is aimed at providing advice to corporate clients on strategies and "exit solutions" to be applied in conflicts, contracts and complex negotiations. His experience also includes corporate counseling related to the insurance and reinsurance business. He has worked with Osterling Abogados throughout his entire professional career, acquiring renowned experience in institutional and ad hoc arbitration. He has acted as arbitrator and as attorney in several of the most important arbitration cases. Enrique has represented national and foreign clients in numerous negotiations, arbitration proceedings and alternative conflict settlement solutions in Peru, continental Europe and the United Kingdom.
An important part of Enrique's work concentrates on representing clients through complex disputes in connection to civil, corporate and insurance conflicts. With regard to insurance and reinsurance, he has broad experience in coverage matters and in handling, monitoring and coordinating complex claims, especially those concerning significant insurance claims and disputes on industrial, aviation and maritime transportation issues, as well as liability risks (tort, professional liability, Directors and Officers – D&O, Errors and Omissions – E&O), having handled claims for over US$ 790 million to date. His practice includes the design, drafting, preparation and interpretation of policies, contracts and agreements for the insurance industry and regulatory affairs.
His professional practice also covers Government insurance contracts and the management and operation of these policies, as well as comprehensive advice on all kinds of litigation concerning the insurance and reinsurance market.
He lectures regularly in conferences and seminars related to the insurance sector and arbitrations Enrique is frequently appointed as arbitrator. He has been recognized by the British publication Chambers Latin America, of Chambers and Partners Legal Publishers, for his work as arbitrator and as pioneer in the development of the environmental law in Peru.
He was advisor for the World Bank in the creation of the Fund for Natural Protected Areas of Peru and for the Inter-American Development Bank – IADB, in the elaboration of the first Environmental Act. Furthermore, he has been advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP in issues concerning environmental liability. He acted as advisor for the Canadian International Development Agency in forestry issues and for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature for Natural Protected Areas. He is founder and currently Vice President of the Peruvian Environmental Law Society.
