Thierry is co-head of Loyens & Loeff's VAT, Customs & International Trade Practice Group in the Benelux. He manages his International Indirect Tax practice from the Luxembourg office of Loyens & Loeff.
For more than 28 years, Thierry has specialised in VAT, customs, excise duties, international trade matters, real estate and in transfer pricing matters. His clients are mainly active in the real estate and finance sectors (securitisations, holdings, investment funds industry) in Luxembourg, Belgium and across Europe. He also counsels international organisations and foundations on indirect taxes matters.
Thierry is a Lecturer in VAT law at the Fiscaale Hogeschool van Brussel (linked to the KU Leuven / University of Leuven), the Chairman of the European VAT Club and a member of the VAT Expert Group of the European Commission (VEG, composed of individuals with the requisite expertise in the area of VAT and organisations representing in particular businesses and tax practitioners which can assist in the development and implementation of VAT policies within the EU). He is also a member of the Global Legal Customs Association (GLCA) as well as of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and several Luxembourg professional associations, the Luxembourg Bankers' Association (ABBL), the association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) and the Luxembourg Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (LPEA).
He is mentioned in his field of expertise as a leading expert by ITR World Tax and Legal 500 EMEA. He is also recognised as an expert in tax law by the Best Lawyers guide (2017).
Thierry is frequently asked to speak at seminars on VAT and customs-related matters.
Thierry has been a member of the Instituut van de Accountants en Belastingconsulenten (IAB) since 2001.
