Dr Christian W Konrad is an Austrian Rechtsanwalt, a solicitor of England and Wales, and admitted as Euroadvokat in the Czech and Slovak Republics. He is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and of the ICC Task Force on Emergency Arbitrator Proceedings.
He is the founding partner of Konrad Partners, an international law firm delivering premier international arbitration services. The firm has offices in Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, Skopje, and London.
Christian is an advocate in the fields of international arbitration, international litigation and public international law. He has extensive experience with arbitral practice, procedure and advocacy both in civil and common law systems. His practice covers inter-state, international and commercial disputes. Christian has represented international organisations and private commercial parties in a broad range of disputes involving inter alia long-term energy contracts, complex construction contracts, concession agreements, insurance contracts, entitlement to natural resources, immunity from jurisdiction, infrastructure projects, and mergers and acquisitions. He regularly advises clients in contract negotiations, public tender proceedings, on the protection of their investments and on the enforcement of arbitral awards and state court judgment throughout the world.
Apart from acting as counsel, Christian has considerable experience in acting as arbitrator and chairman under the auspices of various international arbitral institutions and under ad-hoc appointments. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and a member of panels of various arbitration institutions worldwide. Additionally, he acts as Vice-President of the Kosovo Permanent Tribunal of Arbitration.
Christian regularly lectures about his field of expertise. He is a visiting professor at the South East European University, serves as academic advisor for Masters Programme for dispute resolution (LL.M.) at the private Danube University Krems and co-authored the first English-language treatise about the Rules of Arbitration and Conciliation of the International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (VIAC): The Vienna Rules: A Commentary on International Arbitration in Austria, with its second edition forthcoming.
