Michael Kliemt is founder and senior partner of KLIEMT.HR Lawyers, a leading German law firm with about 65 lawyers practising exclusively in employment, labour, and pension law. His main areas of work include collective dismissals, restructuring processes, drafting and negotiating company collective agreements, negotiation and mediation with works councils and unions, and the creation and legal optimisation of service contracts and pension plans.
Michael received his JD (doctorate) in 1994 and was admitted to the bar in 1995. In 1999, he was granted the title certified employment law specialist by the bar association and, in 2006, the title of professor in labour and employment law. Until 2002, he was partner with Clifford Chance, where he built up and headed the employment law department of the Düsseldorf office.
Michael has been recommended and named a leading German employment law practitioner in publications such as Who's Who Legal?, Best Lawyers, Handelsblatt, WirtschaftsWoche, Focus, and Manager Magazine. Chambers, Legal Experts, and JUVE have named him as one of the leading individuals in employment law in the country.
Michael is a frequent writer and speaker on employment and labour law and author of legal commentaries and many books. He is chairman of Kliemt & Vollstädt's pensions practice group and a member of the German Employment Court Association, the German-Japanese Employment Law Association, and the Working Group of the Employment Law Specialists in the German Lawyers Association. He speaks German and English.
