Rolf M Winkler is senior partner in the German law firm Haver & Mailänder, which has its main office in Stuttgart in the Southwest of Germany and also an office abroad in Brussels, Belgium.
He studied at the Universities of Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Tübingen (doctoral thesis 1970 in European antitrust law) and California at Berkeley (Master of Laws 1973).
His areas of specialization and interest are international commercial transactions and joint ventures, construction and industrial plant contracts, European Community law, technology transfer agreements and industrial property law, distribution and dealership contracts. He is author of numerous legal articles.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1974 in Stuttgart, and has been retained as counsel and trial attorney in many national and international litigations and arbitrations. Dr Winkler is also an experienced arbitrator in ICC, DIS, FAI, UNCITRAL and other cross-border arbitrations.
Dr Winkler is board member of the German American Lawyers Association (chairman of the Arbitration Litigation and Mediation Practice Group) and of the Canadian German Lawyers Association. Among others, he is also member of the German Institution for Arbitration (DIS), Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), German Society for Construction Law, the Licensing Executives Society (LES), and the International Bar Associations (IBA/SBL) Committees on International Litigation, Arbitration, International Construction Projects, Antitrust and Trade Law.
At the University of Heidelberg Dr Winkler is a lecturer on "The Law of International Dispute Resolution in Private Law".
