Laura has been the Managing Partner of Dumont since 2008, and she has more than 30 years of experience in the IP field. She graduated with honours in law from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in 1986, and completed further specialties in IP 2000, corporate 2003, civil 2002, amparo, constitutional and environmental law 2001 at the Universidad Panamericana and a specialist course in contracts at ITAM 2009, all of them with honours. She has written about IP for national newspapers and international IP magazines.
Laura is the only female Managing Partner of an IP firm in Mexico.
Laura started in the field in a renowned IP firm and then moved to work at the Mexican Trademark Office (IMPI) where she was the sub-director for the Prevention of Unfair Competition in charge of all administrative infractions. She returned to private practice in 2000, joining Dumont and was put in charge of the litigation department.
As Managing Partner, she has modernised the image of Dumont as well as developed it further in different areas to achieve complete client satisfaction. Under her supervision, Dumont achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification (by TUV Rheinland®) for having a quality management system. Dumont is the first IP firm in Mexico that has been certified in all areas.
Laura has successfully put in place the complete digitalisation of Dumont's archives and can render a paperless service if clients so wish.
Laura has recruited several lawyers and engineering leaders in the field to support and enhance her team and in order to provide legal services related to IP such as regulatory, corporate, it, data protection, and valuation of IP assets.
Laura is an active member of national and international professional organisations, including: AMPPI (Chair of the Women's Committee - Mexican Chapter of AIPPI), INTA (Geographical Indications Committee), AIPPI (Co-Chair of Geographical Indications Committee (Q 234), MARQUES (Council Member and Project Leader in the International Team), PTMG, ASIPI (for which she is national delegate and Co-Chair of Geographical Indications Committee), AIPF (Member of the Board), BMA (Mexican bar), AIPLA.
She co-chaired AIPPI (Sydney 2017) the Study Question of Bad Faith Trademarks. and the Resolution on Geographical Indications (both cases the only Mexican female lawyer that has done that).
She recently was invited to be part of the expert team to work on the wording of the amendments to the Mexican Industry Property Law. She was asked to write, among all the experts, the initiative of law as well as the exposition of reasons. This project of amendments has just been introduced and presented to the Mexican House of Representatives.
She chairs several committees in different associations such as MARQUES and ASIPI. She was a speaker (2015) for MARQUES, ASIPI, and UIA.
Laura is in charge of client relations and travels worldwide attending conferences and/or visiting clients. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
She always tries to understand her clients' needs to tailor personal and adequate strategies for each and every case. She has implemented this way of working in all the teams in the firm.
