Rakesh Dharawat is a Partner in Dhruva Advisors LLP based in their Mumbai office.
He is a Law Graduate and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India with over 25 years of consulting experience indirect tax and regulatory matters.
Rakesh focuses on all aspects of domestic and cross-border income tax, as well as regulatory matters. He has particular expertise in developing and implementing complex and innovative strategies around cash repatriation, ETR optimization and group restructuring
He has significant experience in 'indirect transfer' issues, including advising on structuring, valuation and tax aspects of deal documentation where underlying assets in India are transferred. He has been involved in several of the largest global M&A transactions involving Indian assets
Rakesh is also recognized for his deep expertise in handling complex tax controversies, including at the audit, appellate and judicial stages. He has been involved in advising on several high profile tax disputes in India. His expertise in tax controversies extends to alternative dispute resolution mechanisms including Mutual Agreement Procedure(MAP) and arbitration under Bilateral Investment Treaties.
Prior to joining Dhruva Advisors, Rakesh was a partner in KPMG, and earlier in PwC India.
