Timothy O'Brien, Deloitte Japan (Tohmatsu Tax Co.), is a Partner in Tokyo-based Transfer Pricing Consulting Services team. He has more than 20 years of experience in transfer pricing matters and has been based in Deloitte's Tokyo office since August 2000.
Tim has expertise in planning, restructuring, advance pricing agreements, tax audit defense, and appeals. He serves a number of multinational companies, primarily in the technology, media, & telecommunications ("TMT"), life-sciences industries, and consumer products. More broadly, he supports companies in Japan with their cross border tax and transfer pricing issues and assists multinationals with global IP and supply chain planning.
He has a long history developing and negotiating pricing methodologies for advance pricing agreements ("APA's") and for settling audit cases with the local and Regional Taxation Bureaus. In addition to audit support and APA's, he has also been part of a successful appeal to the National Tax Tribunal of an audit-related transfer pricing adjustment.
