Tarun Arora, Deloitte India, is a Tax (Transfer Pricing) partner based in the India office. He has over 20 years of experience, out of which 16 years are in Transfer Pricing, including a US secondment where he acquired hands-on experience on transfer pricing negotiation and dispute resolution.
He is responsible for advising clients on various transfer pricing issues, tax planning and optimization opportunities across a wide spectrum of industries. His areas of expertise include planning and implementing complex profit splits, value chain transformation, supply chain management and business model restructuring, etc. He has also handled large assignments on intellectual property valuation and migration, permanent establishment attribution related advisory, tax rate optimization, devising dispute resolution strategies, effecting Advance Pricing Agreement and Mutual Agreement Procedure settlements, audit defense, etc.
Tarun is currently handling some large global transfer pricing documentation projects including Country-by-Country reporting, Master File and Local Files' preparation for several Indian, US, Europe and Japan headquartered multinational groups. The largest group has about 500 entities spread across more than 100 jurisdictions. He has also worked on a host of transfer pricing projects for US, European and Asia-Pacific countries and is well versed with OECD principles and transfer pricing regulations of various countries.
He has successfully represented and won many cases at the Indian Income Tax Appellate Tribunal level (the second appellate authority in India), including certain landmark cases setting precedence on key transfer pricing issues.
He has serviced a broad range of international and Indian clients across industries, like automotive, technology, information technology, retail and consumer goods, industrial manufacturing, telecom, real estate, EPC sector, media & entertainment, oil & gas, e-commerce etc. on all aspects of Indian transfer pricing issues including planning, compliances, audits and dispute resolution.
Tarun has participated in transfer pricing workshops conducted by various international agencies and is an active speaker in national and international forums. He was also part of the team that was set-up by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for assisting the institute in drafting the rules relating to the transfer pricing legislation in India. He has been regularly interacting with the Indian Government officials on various transfer pricing issues and has contributed several articles to both national and international journals.
