George H Soba, Deloitte US, is a principal in the Atlanta office. As managing principal of the US Southeast transfer pricing practice, George focuses on Deloitte Tax LLP's goal of providing world- class transfer pricing services to clients in the southeast United States, and across the country as part of the National Deloitte Tax Transfer Pricing Team.
George has over 14 years of experience with Deloitte Tax, serving many of the firm's largest US and foreign-based multinational clients. Before joining Deloitte, George worked in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel as attorney advisor for nine years, litigating a broad range of tax cases, including a transfer pricing case, before the United States Tax Court. During that time, he also served as an advisor to IRS examination teams conducting transfer pricing audits, and served as a field attorney on advance pricing agreement (APA) cases. He worked for an additional two years as a senior attorney advisor in the Office of Associate Chief Counsel (International) advising large-case examination teams on transfer pricing issues, advising the US Competent Authority on transfer pricing, permanent establishment, and business profits issues, and as a team leader in the APA program.
George has extensive experience advising US and foreign multinational clients on the transfer pricing aspects of global tax rationalization; planning, documentation, and audit defence; APAs; Competent Authority matters; real estate and REITs; and Section 199 studies. George's industry experience includes health care (including vertically integrated pharmaceutical companies, biotech, and medical instrument companies) and contract research organizations; consumer goods companies (retailers, distributors, and manufacturers); REITs; heavy manufacturing (including construction equipment, printing, automotive companies, and automotive parts manufacturers); aerospace; technology (wafer manufacturers, chip design and manufacturing, internet-related optical routers, servers, and infrastructure); financial transaction processing; and electronic trading exchanges.
George is a frequent speaker on transfer pricing topics and has authored and coauthored papers on transfer pricing audits, blocked income, APAs, and other topics.
