John Vasily is Co-Chair of the Worldwide Financial Institutions Group at Debevoise & Plimpton. His practice focuses on cross-border merger and acquisition transactions, both inbound and outbound. He has extensive experience in insurance transactions in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and the United States. He is ranked by all of the recognized legal publications as a leading lawyer for financial services M&A. Chambers has described him as "absolutely outstanding" whose advice offers "the right mix between pragmatism and vigor." His regular clients include Prudential Financial, AIG and AXA.
Mr Vasily was selected as a "Dealmaker of the Year" by The American Lawyer in 2011 for his work representing AIG in its worldwide asset disposition program. Mr Vasily has been an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law School since 2002. He received a JD from Georgetown in 1982 and a BS in Accounting from Villanova University in 1979. Mr Vasily serves on the Board of Visitors of the Georgetown University Law Center and on the Advisory Board for the Law Center's Corporate Counsel Institute.
