Craig Rooney is a partner in Clyde & Co's global Aviation group and is based in London.
Craig's practice focuses mainly on aviation insurance liability work, mostly on the defendant side. Craig represents airlines and their insurers in all aspects of dispute resolution and his experience includes major losses, subrogated recovery actions, aircraft and related property damage claims and general liability matters such as high value personal injury/fatality, cargo and baggage claims.
He also has considerable experience in handling matters involving EU consumer rights legislation in the field of aviation law, in particular the carriage of passengers with reduced mobility.
His practice focuses on European, African and Middle Eastern jurisdictions and he is adept at obtaining positive outcomes in often challenging environments. Craig's understanding of his clients' expectations enables him to achieve commercially viable and pragmatic solutions. His approach to handling disputes takes into account not only the legal issues under consideration but also the reputational and brand image considerations of his clients. Craig has extensive experience of litigation in England & Wales.
As a result of acting for a number of major African carriers in relation to matters spanning the continent, Craig has considerable exposure to the region and has taken a particular curiosity in Africa as an emerging economy for aviation. As such, his interest has led him to speak at conferences and write articles on the socio-economic factors impacting the future of the African aviation industry, and the potential insurance risks and implications that lie ahead. Most recently, Craig spoke on the topic of emergency response and crisis management from an airline's perspective at the Aviation Africa Conference held in Cairo during April 2018.
Adopting a tenacious and thorough approach to litigation, "the brilliant and very capable Craig Rooney" has never lost a trial in over 16 years. It is down to his pragmatic and realistic approach to advising his clients that means he is highly regarded as a commercially aware member of the Clyde & Co team.
Craig trained and qualified at Beaumont and Son prior to its merger with Clyde & Co. He became a partner in 2015 and has been recognised by Legal 500 UK and, previously, the Expert Guides' Rising Stars publication in the aviation category.
