Joe McArthur is a partner in the Vancouver office of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP where he practices arbitration and commercial litigation. Counsel work includes numerous arbitrations and court proceedings involving both public and private companies in a range of industries, including mining, infrastructure, utilities, financial services and technology. Recent representative matters as counsel include: a dispute involving the financial arrangements arising from P3 infrastructure; a delay and disruption claim arising from the construction of large energy infrastructure; a dispute over the termination of privately delivered energy to a municipality; disputes over mining concession ownership and offtake agreements; a dispute over the shipping of petroleum coke; and a dispute involving helicopter services to off-shore oil platforms.
As Co-chair of the Firm's International Dispute Resolution group, Mr McArthur regularly advises on domestic and international arbitrations as counsel and is available for appointment as arbitrator.
Arbitration appointments include disputes related to share valuations, the ownership of mining concessions, franchise and agency disputes and general commercial contract disputes. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association's International Centre Dispute Resolution (ICDR) Panel of Arbitrators and the Domestic and International Arbitration Panels of the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre (BCICAC).
He writes regularly on arbitration issues and is a frequent speaker at arbitration conferences. Mr McArthur is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an invited member of the Western Canadian Commercial Arbitration Society.
In addition to the Expert Guide, he has been recognized in dispute resolution and arbitration by a number of publications including Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers in Canada and Benchmark Canada.
