Dr Rodrigo Bermeo was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1957 and is married to Cecilia Andrade with three children. He is an Ecuadorian lawyer and a doctor of law. He was educated in the US and Italy, and has attended many seminars and conventions around the world.
He is the senior partner of Bermeo & Bermeo, a firm founded by Dr Vicente Bermeo-Lañas in 1948, which incorporated the practices of Mr Aurelio Vallejo and Manuel García-Enríquez, founded in 1900. Nowadays, Bermeo & Bermeo is one of the three leading firms in Ecuador, with a high reputation for quality legal services; the firm is a traditional law firm with membership in the main international organisations such as: INTA, AIPPI, MARQUES, ECTA, LES, ABA, ASIPI and others.
Bermeo & Bermeo has more than 800 multinational clients such as: L'Oreal, Alcatel, Akzo Nobel; Procter & Gamble; Degussa; Harley Davidson; Pernod Ricard; Thomson CSF; Schering; ENI Group, Mead Johnson, Purdue Pharma, Gedeon Richter, Merck Sharpe & Dohme, Schlumberger, Renault and many others.
Rodrigo is the author of several publications such as: the "85th Decision of Cartagena Agreement and Effects on the Distinctive Symbols"; Ecuadorian "Chapters of Patents, Trademarks, Design & Utility Models Throughout the World" (Clark Boardman Publications); Legal Systems of the World (Ecuadorian Chapter, 2002), A Political, Social and Cultural Encyclopedia edited by Prof Herbert M Kritzer, ABC Clio.
Among other distinctions he was a teacher of patent & trademark law at Catholic University, 1985. He is past president of the Licensing Executives Society LES Colombia/Ecuador; representative of members of countries with no national groups of the AIPPI; and is secretary and member of the board of several multinational companies.
Rodrigo speaks English and Spanish and understands some French.
