Asue Ighodalo is a founding partner of Banwo & Ighodalo, one of the foremost commercial law firms in Nigeria. He obtained his first degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan, a law degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science; and was admitted into the Nigerian Bar in July 1985.
His core areas of practice are Corporate and Project Finance, Securities and Capital Markets, Energy & Natural Resources, and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Asue is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (past Chairman of the Section on Business Law), International Bar Association (Section on Energy and Natural Resources Law), Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, Institute of Directors, Nigeria, Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Commercial Law and Taxation Committee of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
He has garnered extensive experience in all of his core practice areas, and he has been engaged in most of the major corporate mergers and restructurings in Nigeria in the last ten years, and virtually all of the international capital market transactions by both the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Nigerian corporates and commercial banks. Recently, he led the team that advised Tropical General Investments Limited in connection with the divestment of its entire shareholding in C.H.I. Limited to European Refreshments and The Coca Cola Export Corporation, (subsidiaries of The Coca Cola Company). He also led the team that advised Greenoaks Global Holdings Limited ("GGH") in connection with the divestment of its 99.03% equity stake in Ensure Insurance Plc, (an insurance company in Nigeria providing composite insurance policies) to Societe Fonciere Europeenne B.V. (the "Purchaser"), an affiliate of Allianz SE.
Asue led the Nigerian Government side legal team on all the transactions since 2011 debut bond to the 2018 bond. He has also served on several government advisory panels including the Nigeria Electric Sector Reform Implementation Committee and served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Stock Exchange Demutualization Committee.
Asue is the Chairman, Board of Directors, Sterling Bank Plc, Dangote Flour Mills Plc and the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG). He also sits on the boards of Mainstreet Technologies Limited, Cardinal Stone Partners, Okomu Oil Palm Plc, Christopher Kolade Foundation, FATE Foundation and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).
Asue has been consistently ranked as a "Tier 1" or "Leading lawyer" in all of his areas of practice by the leading legal directories. He has authored many articles in leading law publications and also delivered papers and served as a resource person on diverse subjects.
His hobbies include golfing, watching football, reading, traveling and participating in political discourse. He is married and has a daughter.
