Ciro Meza leads the tax department of Baker McKenzie Colombia and has over 17 years of experience in tax planning, tax consulting and tax litigation.
Mr Meza's practice focuses on Colombian tax law and international tax law and he is active in tax-related matters in private equity transactions, reorganisations and structural tax planning.
Mr Meza has been a tax adviser since 2001, joined Baker McKenzie in 2010 and became partner in 2014. He received his J.D. from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and his LL.M in International and Comparative Law from Tulane University (2006).
From 2006 to 2010, he worked as a tax manager at Deloitte Colombia. Prior to this, he was an associate at two firms focused on tax and international trade, Godoy & Hoyos (2003 – 2004) and Araujo Ibarra & Asociados (2001 – 2003). He has also been a professor of tax law courses at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad Externado de Colombia and Universidad ICESI.
Mr Meza has advised companies from the oil and gas, IT, consumer business, and mining sectors in Colombia. He has also been involved in restructuring several companies and in local and multi-jurisdictional M&A transactions.
Mr Meza was elected president of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) in Colombia. Among his most representative clients are Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Frontera Energy, Total, Petroleos Sudamericanos, Lifemiles and AngloGold Ashanti.
