Sören Giver is a senior partner and a European patent attorney at Awapatent. He is also a Swedish authorised IP attorney. He has practised intellectual property law since 1983 and been the key account manager for some of Awapatent's large national as well as international clients. He has frequent contacts with US attorneys and has considerable knowledge of US patent practice. He has lectured in the US, Japan and Denmark on various patent-related topics, especially EPC and the EP/US interface. Sören is responsible for Awapatent's business relations with the US.
His work is particularly focused on IP strategies and third-party cases such as infringement analyses, freedom-to-operate analyses, validity issues, risk analyses, oppositions, appeals and re-examinations. He has a master's degree in engineering physics and specialises in medical technology, liquid crystals, paper manufacturing, telecommunications, electrical science, constructions, flooring and other industries.
Since 1997, Sören has been in charge of Awapatent's training course in European patent law for attorneys preparing for the European Qualification Exam. He is also responsible for the in-house lecturing on the EPO Board of Appeal Case Law for Awapatent's attorneys at law.
Sören is fluent in English, Swedish and Danish, and has a fair understanding of French. He is a member of EPI, SPOF (Association of Swedish Patent Attorneys), AIPPI, FICPI and LES (Licensing Executives Society), and a European Patent Attorney and an Authorized Patent Attorney (Sweden).
He holds a Master's in Engineering Physics from the University of Technology in Lund (1983).
