Carolina is co-managing partner at Arias Costa Rica and she leads two practice areas: Corporate and Tax. In the area of Tax, she leads multiple tax litigation processes, due diligences and designs tax planning structures for sophisticated clients.
Carolina's strong track record in local and regional tax advice for both local and international companies, has allowed her to successfully manage transactions locally and cross-border. She is well known for her knowledge, singular expertise, analytical thinking and synthesis capacity.
As a tax expert, she is a collaborator in tax publications such as, Costa Rican Chapter on Transfer Pricing Regulations for the IBFD, a center of expertise that offers information and education on international taxation; she is also frequently contacted by newspaper and media outlets to give her opinion on legal matters.
Carolina is very well recognized by numerous international organizations and her clients for her legal expertise. In 2017 and 2014, Carolina was awarded as "Best Tax Lawyer in Latin America" by Euromoney at the Women in Business Law Awards.
Carolina has been a role model for other women lawyers within the firm and in the country. By becoming the first woman partner of a Costa Rican law firm at Arias, she opened a road to the women at the firm that saw that it was possible to become a partner (a position that was traditionally for men) and having professional success even while raising a family.
Carolina's ability to understand organizational dynamic makes her stand out as leader in the firm. She excelled for her dedication and willingness to help, to mentor and to promote improvement and growth of the associates of the firm. She launched and leads strategies to create a good working environment that allow the improvement of each person of the firm.
Her outstanding capacity of decision-making led her to be the head of several practices areas at Arias. She is very active in the firm, introducing new tax services, providing clients with a complete service, and integrating tax services with other practice areas including customs, corporate services and finance. Additionally, Carolina's remarkable soft skills allow her to have a positive response from the members of the teams she leads and of the firm in general.

She holds and LL.M. in International Taxation from New York University and a Juris Doctor -equivalent law degree- from Law School, Universidad of Costa Rica (1999).
