Doug Jones is an international infrastructure and dispute resolution lawyer. He is a Sydney partner in the Australian law firm of Clayton Utz where he heads the international arbitration and major projects groups of the firm. He has practised extensively throughout Australasia and Asia in project structuring and financing, contract drafting and advice during project implementation and dispute resolution since his first admission to practice in 1972. This involvement includes large CBD buildings, petrochemical and LNG plant design and construction, roads, dams and tunnels, civil engineering, thermal gas, hydro, wind and co-generation electricity generation construction. He has also had wide experience in PPP and PFI projects, including roads, power projects, prisons, waste and potable water and defence projects. Doug has extensive experience in international arbitrations under the ICC, LCIA, KLRCA, SIAC and ACICA rules. He has also been regularly involved in the use of alternative dispute resolution including mediation in construction industry disputes. He is a Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London), Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Council of the London Court of International Arbitration and Vice-Chairman of the IPBA Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Committee, Senior Vice-President of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration, Board member of the Australian Commercial Disputes Centre, a Foundation Fellow and Graded Arbitrator of The Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia, International Arbitration Panel Member of a number of International Arbitral Institutions and a member of the Australian Executive of the Dispute Review Board Foundation, Member of International Bar Association Committees on International Construction Contracts (Co - Vice Chair) and International Arbitration (Member of Conflicts of Interest Working Group) and Member of Society of Construction Arbitrators. He is an Editor of the International Construction Law Review, Editorial Board Member of the International Trade & Business Law Review, Editorial Board Member of Global Arbitration Review and a member of The Melbourne Juris Doctor Advisory Board of the University of Melbourne. He is the author of Building and Construction Claims and Disputes, Construction Publications (1996); a contributor to The Expert in Litigation and Arbitration, LLP Limited (1999); and The Commercial Way to Justice, Kluwer Law International (1999). He also regularly contributes articles to industry journals within Australia and internationally. He is a professorial fellow of the Law School of Melbourne University, adjunct professor of the Graduate School of Law, The University of Notre Dame, Australia, and adjunct professor of law, Murdoch University, Australia. In January 1999 he was made a member of the Order of Australia in recognition of his services to construction law and dispute resolution. |
