Jonathan is the director of Clayton Utz's international arbitration group.
Upon qualification, Jonathan worked for four years as a barrister at the Commercial Bar in London and for a further five years in Paris, first at the ICC Court of Arbitration and then as an associate of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. He has worked at Clayton Utz since 1999.
Jonathan has advised clients on all aspects of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution both internationally and domestically. He has worked predominantly in five industry sectors: engineering and infrastructure, oil and gas, banking (in particular, asset finance), reinsurance, and international trade. He advises not only on the management of disputes, including enforcement of awards, but also on the drafting of arbitration and ADR provisions in contracts and strategic options for effective dispute resolution.
Jonathan has extensive experience in both public and private international law, including bilateral investment treaties, and has represented clients in arbitrations, mediations, conciliations, expert processes and other forms of ADR in a wide variety of jurisdictions. These have included Iran, Iraq, South Korea, the Philippines, Libya, France, the US, Qatar, Belgium, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Cameroon, Morocco and Russia.
