Daniel A Neff is co-chairman of the Executive Committee and partner at Wachtell Lipton. He joined in 1977. He is a corporate and securities lawyer, and has focused principally on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance matters.
Mr Neff has been extensively involved in negotiations and hostile acquisitions, including a number of the most significant transactions of the past 20 years. Among the matters he has been responsible for are the successful defense of Airgas during the hostile bid by Air Products & Chemicals, the sale of Rohm and Haas to Dow Chemical Company and the representation of Unocal in its merger with Chevron and in responding to the competing bids from CNOOC.
He has been a counsel to managements and boards of directors (including special committees) during conflict transactions, corporate governance and similar issues.
He lectures frequently on topics relating to his professional interests and was featured in American Lawyer's Dealmaker of the Year article in 2001 and is listed in the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers of America.
Mr Neff graduated with a high honour from Brown University and from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review.
Mr Neff has served for many years as a member of the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater New York, where he is a member of the Executive Committee and chair of the Branch Chair Council.
He has been actively involved with Brown University, including serving as a member of the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid, and with Columbia Law School, where he is a member of the board of visitors.
